{"id":354,"date":"2021-11-05T15:59:08","date_gmt":"2021-11-05T15:59:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepiratechurch.org\/?page_id=354"},"modified":"2021-11-05T16:01:39","modified_gmt":"2021-11-05T16:01:39","slug":"patron-saint-pyrate","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/thepiratechurch.org\/index.php\/patron-saint-pyrate\/","title":{"rendered":"Patron Saint Pyrate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A while back, during conclave, the crew or Company was asked who would be the Patron Saint Pirate among those of The Pirate Church.\u00a0 This question is a tough one.<\/p>\n<p>Alot hangs on a name.\u00a0 All pirates are honored in some way; despite their status, means or ends.\u00a0 The question of who would retain that honor was never even settled among the Mountain Pirates of Appalachia &#8211; how could we even begin to pick it for our own crew?<\/p>\n<p>The spiritual, synchronistic and fateful energy of any pirate, once a name is taken, will bind itself to any venture.\u00a0 \u00a0If you think that this is overly superstitious, then you don&#8217;t understand sailors.\u00a0 So how to decide.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_358\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-358\" style=\"width: 335px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-358\" src=\"https:\/\/thepiratechurch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/picture-of-flag-of-henry-every-black-version.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"335\" height=\"223\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thepiratechurch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/picture-of-flag-of-henry-every-black-version.jpg 740w, https:\/\/thepiratechurch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/picture-of-flag-of-henry-every-black-version-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thepiratechurch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/picture-of-flag-of-henry-every-black-version-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 335px) 100vw, 335px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-358\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Even the names of pyrates carry their own zeitgeist.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Black Bart and Black Beard are common because they are well noted by historians, writers and playwrights.\u00a0 In legend, they live large &#8211; from Black Beard&#8217;s (Teach) tactical tenacity, his use of propaganda and psychological warfare to Black Bart (Roberts) all out ruthlessness, ability to defy all authority and stick-it-to-the-man attitude, they would seem like a natural fit for a patron saint.<\/p>\n<p>Still, one has to consider the Charter of a Man&#8217;s Life &#8211; where did he end up?<\/p>\n<p>Cheng I Sao is a good choice, however as we live in an age of strained Sino-American relations and The Pirate Church is primarily located in North America, many would not understand why she would be a good choice.<\/p>\n<p>Bonny, Mead, O&#8217;Malley and Wall all either got pregnant, traded out or got executed.<\/p>\n<p>Drake and Morgan are strong possibilities, both retired successfully, still &#8230; both men really traded their life of piracy for one as a State&#8217;s captain, and that kinda of put&#8217;s them on the sidelines &#8230; with respect.<\/p>\n<p>We are left with just a few here.\u00a0 Easton accepted a pardon, which under the circumstances, it was acceptable.\u00a0 He quit piracy while he was ahead &#8230; but then he quit, that something to bear in mind.<\/p>\n<p>So here is what we have;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The pirate should not be someone who died tragically, horrifically or foolishly<\/li>\n<li>The pirate should not be someone who died by trail or hanging<\/li>\n<li>The pirate should be one who&#8217;s last mission as a pirate was successful, he was never found and they lived a full life<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>But did such a pirate exist?<\/p>\n<p>There is &#8230; and there is a reason why he&#8217;s forgotten in both Federalist and Imperialistic history.\u00a0 In The Pirate Church&#8217;s opinion, he isn&#8217;t celebrated because he did get away, and ultimately, defied the powers of the age in order to live a full life.<\/p>\n<p>His name was <strong>Captain Henry Every<\/strong> &#8211; he was despised by all of the authorities of his day and very respected among seafarers.\u00a0 Honestly, that is an impressive feat.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 981px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Sony Games\" src=\"https:\/\/www.worldhistory.org\/uploads\/images\/14625.png?v=1631627615\" alt=\"Image of Cpt. Every\" width=\"981\" height=\"896\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Captain Henry Every is the most successful pirate in all of history. He was never caught, plus he died rich and free.
